Kim Hindart (City Network) talks about how to Futureproof Your OpenStack Deployment to Ensure Compliance with GDPR.

General Data Protection Regulation is here and it is law so come 25th of May 2018 you better have your things in order or it will hurt you pretty hard. There are severe penalties for breaking GDPR. You are affected even if your company is outside the EU as long as you do business with EU citizens. Cloud is the magic bullet to solving your compliance issues but you need to run it correct to avoid the chopping block.

We will look through OpenStack configurations and policies and have a look at what needs to be done and what needs to be changed. We will have a discussion what Privacy by Design means in terms of OpenStack. What can be done within OpenStack itself and what are appropriate steps to take with other tools. How to set up a compliant architecture. All base on real case law. With this session we hope to bring GDPR from the lawyers and in to the Data Center. It is not just a legal discussion where it usually stops but most certainly a technical one as well.

Zsolt Hargitai (Suse) talks about containers and OpenStack.

Container software is a hot topic. There are many platform alternatives for developing and running container apps. In this session we will discuss why OpenStack is an ideal platform for developing, orchestrating and running containers for CI/CD and DevOps.

Thierry Carrez (OpenStack Foundation) talks about containers and OpenStack.

The success of the container technologies resides in their capacity to isolate application developers from the base infrastructure. It is therefore easy to fall in the trap of considering that OpenStack, as an infrastructure provider, is not relevant in a containers world. However, container technologies still require someone to provide flexible infrastructure for that abstraction layer to live on.

OpenStack provides programmable infrastructure (bare metal, VMs, container orchestration engines, networking or storage services) that can then be used by application developers. In this talk, we'll explore how complementary Openstack is to container technologies like Docker or Kubernetes, and how they answer orthogonal questions in a harmonious way. We'll expose what key issue (and which stakeholders) each solution actually answers to, then dive into examples of where that complementarity already shows: Kuryr, hyper.sh, OpenStack itself using Kubernetes for its own deployment...

What can I expect to learn?
Container technologies are transforming our industry, and a lot of people erroneously consider them as a replacement for OpenStack. While you can certainly use container technologies without OpenStack, they are complementary solutions and there is a lot to gain by using them together. This talk dives into this complementarity and should help dissipate the replacement myth.
